The Rogue & The Vagabond is an arty bar which welcomes two Wellingtonian female artists tonight and the starter is given by the singer and guitarist Jhan Lindsay. After a very respectable set, Jhan leaves the stage for Nicole Andrews and her musicians who joined her exceptionally for this date in the capital.
Wellington, her adopted city – Nicole Andrews comes from Portland in the United States – is one of the last dates of her national tour for the release of her album In The Shallows.

So tonight Nicole Andrews was accompanied by her live band – a guitarist, a bassist and a drummer. Sat at the grand piano, Nicole began her show with Just Another Female Vocalist before issuing some sumptuous Gothic ballads sometimes coated with sweetness and sensuousness sometimes lulled by some volatile melancholy. But in each case, Nicole Andrews sings with her heart where a deep passion comes out of her voice and the tips of her fingers. While the set explores with magic In The Shallows, Nicole sprinkles the show with two masterful covers including the sublime Hurt from the Californian band Nine Inch Nails. Some surprises also are scattered throughout the hour. While on the album, Goodbye Sweetheart is the only title without piano, for this representation Nicole chose offering it to us only with this instrument, and, for the most beautiful effect. Between the songs, the artist doesn’t hesitate to tell us some anecdotes like for example about her title Time which was created with a simple keyboard or having fun on the fact the band still has no name. The show will be concluded with Whisper, last single from In The Shallows (video below).

At the Rogue & Vagabond tonight, Nicole Andrews was not “Just Another Female Vocalist”, she was the star that shone upon Wellington.
